Hero Spotlight: Travis Williams

Deputy Travis Williams, is a Putnam County native with nearly 14 years of combined military service in both the Active Duty U.S. Army and the Tennessee Army National Guard. A combat veteran, Deputy Williams continues his service as both a member of the Tennessee Army National Guard and a deputy with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, where he has served since 2023.

In 2024, Deputy Williams received a Meritorious Award from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and the Putnam County Commission in recognition of his actions during a critical incident in Cookeville. According to a department press release, Deputy Williams came upon a young child who had been struck by a vehicle and immediately began administering CPR until additional law enforcement personnel and emergency medical responders arrived on scene.

During a recent deployment supporting public safety operations in Memphis, Deputy Williams was involved in multiple critical incidents where he and fellow Soldiers rendered emergency lifesaving aid to victims suffering traumatic injuries until emergency medical personnel arrived on scene.

In recognition of his actions during these incidents, Deputy Williams received a challenge coin from Secretary of War Pete Hegseth during a visit to the Memphis Safe Task Force.

In addition to his military service and patrol duties, Deputy Williams currently serves on the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and Honor Guard.
